Bethlehem, Pa. (March 22, 2013) – Dennis J. Costello, General Manager of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem, is pleased to announce that the hotel’s Pastry Chef, Cassandra Tripaldi who competed last weekend in the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon, finished first in her age group and 9th overall among women.
30,000 runners were in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 16th to compete in the second annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon. Tripaldi said “It was an amazing day, the weather was perfect” as she described the race that wound its runners through the streets of the Nation’s Capitol. “It was probably the hardest race in my life, when I hit the 23rd mile a younger man I was pacing next to went down while running, screaming in cramping pain, it was kind of scary to see and mentally freaked me out, but I managed to pull through.” Says Tripaldi, who ran the 26.2 miles in 3 hours, 11 minutes and 2 seconds came in first in her age group and was the 9th woman to finish overall. “It was awesome, my parents, sister, brother-in-law and boyfriend came down with me to cheer me on and my trainer ran the half marathon so I had his support from the sideline as I was finishing my final mile. It felt so great to finish and to have had the opportunity to compete against a lot of elite runners.” Because she finished in less than 3 hours and 35 minutes, Tripaldi has now qualified for the world famous Boston Marathon, which she absolutely plans on running, in 2014.
“My body hates me right now!” Says Tripaldi, who began intense training for this marathon on January 1st with trainer John Sohen of Bethlehem. She holds the Lehigh Valley Road Runners women’s title; she’s been featured in Runner’s World Magazine, and in October won the inaugural Runner’s World Half- Marathon in Bethlehem.
