Employee of the month saves a life!

Bethlehem PA. - November 3, 2010; General Manager of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem, Dennis Costello is pleased to announce November’s Employee of the Month Vilma Bernard-Canino.

Vilma has been an outstanding employee and valued member of the hotel’s housekeeping team for a number of years.  But …this month’s winner has something out of the ordinary to add to her resume.

As Vilma was attending to her normal duties, a hotel guest opened her room door in dire need, her face was blue and she could not breathe, a piece of candy had blocked her airway.  Vilma ran to the guest and immediately administered the Heimlich Maneuver.  The candy dislodged, but the woman was not breathing.   Vilma then administered CPR and she began to breathe.  Needless to say the guest expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Vilma.  Vilma credits her quick response to her training and tenure as a nurse in her native Puerto Rico.  “Vilma is respected buy her peers as well as the entire management team, we are thrilled to be giving her this award” says Costello.


The Historic Hotel Bethlehem’s Employee of the Month Award is coveted by every hotel employee , the winner is awarded a monetary gift along with a complimentary dinner for two in the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, “1741 on the Terrace”, an engraved plaque, as well an evening of dinner and theater in January with the other 12 winners of the award.
