Bethlehem, Pa., (July 1, 2010) -The General Manager of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem, Dennis J. Costello, is pleased to announce that the hotel will be celebrating Bastille Day, the French Independence Day, with a Bastille Day Brunch on Sunday July 18th.
The hotel will be incorporating their award winning brunch with French Cuisine, Culture and Music. Hotel Restaurant Manager, Francoise Buhot Launay Brown, born in Lille, France, initiated the celebration two years ago and it is now part of the hotel’s tradition. Years ago, quite unexpectedly, Francoise discovered that her great-grandfather, a French artist, sculpted a bronze of the Marquis de Lafayette and that Lafayette College had procured the piece. Lafayette College has generously agreed to display the statue at the hotel for the Bastille Day Brunch celebration. Diane Shaw of Lafayette’s special collections will be accompanying the bronze as well as a number of other artifacts, including fascinating correspondence between the young Marquis de Lafayette and General George Washington, who cared so deeply for the young Frenchman that he gave directions to the Moravian’s when treating Lafayette’s injuries after the battle of Brandywine, to “treat him as if he were my son!” The college will also be displaying the key to la Bastille.
The music will be compilations of Francois Couperin, played on harpsichord, the favorite instrument of Marie Antoinette, Edith Piaf, Erik Satie and Claude DeBussy on piano. In true French style there will be a mime.
In addition to the hotel’s famous award winning brunch, the chef will be preparing salad nicoise, poulet sauté au jus, haricot vert, pommes dauphine, fruits de mer, brie en croute, boeuf ou jus jambon, ratatouille, baguettes et fromages and crepes farcies.
For the children there will be a special buffet table and the story Madeline, read by Rachel, by Ludwig Bemelmans and other entertainment.
Bastille Day Brunch will be $29.95 and $9.95 for children ages 6-12, children 5 and under are free, reservations are recommended (610) 625-2226
